Kisan Vikas Patra re-launched today

The Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley has re-launched Kisan Vikas Patra today in a function held at Hotel Ashoka, NewDelhi.  Sri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union minister for communication & IT, Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, Finance Secretary, Ms. Kavita, Secretary, Department of Posts, Shri Rajat Bhargava, Joint Secretary (Budget), Department of Economic Affairs (DEA),Ministry of Finance and other senior officers of the Ministry of Finance and Department of Posts and National Small Savings Organizations were also present among others on this occasion.


Salient Features of re-launched Kisan Vikas Patra :
1.Amount Invested doubles in 100 months ( 8years 4 months)
2.Available in denominations of Rs 1,000, 5000, 10,000 and Rs 50,000.
3.Minimum deposit Rs 1000/- and no maximum limit.
4.Certificate can be purchased by an adult for himself or on behalf of a minor or by two adults.
5.KVP can be purchased from any DEpartmental Post office. This facility will also be extended shortly to the designated branches of commercial Banks.
6.Facility of nomination is available.
7.Certificate can be transferred from one person to another and from one post office to another.
8.Certificate can be encashed after 2 1/2 years from the date of issue.

Centre to lower age limit for civil service aspirants

The Central Govt  intends to reduce the upper age limit and number of attempts of applicants with effect from 2015. Going by the new norm, the upper age limit will be 29 years for SC/ST candidates, 28 years for OBC and 26 for the unreserved category.
There will be an additional two years for physically challenged candidates in each category.
At present, the upper age limit for SC/ST, OBC and unreserved candidates is 35, 33 and 30 years respectively.
According to information published on the website of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, the number of attempts allowed for candidates appearing for the Civil Services Examination would also be reduced to six for SC/ST candidates, five for OBC and three for unreserved candidates.
The measures, recommended by the Second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) and almost entirely accepted by the government, were put up on the website a few months ago.
The Centre has decided to retain August 1 in the examination year as the cut-off date for eligibility and not to review the structure of the examination (both preliminary and main) since this was only recently changed.

India Post joins hand with Snapdeal.com, to introduce new-age technology at cost of Rs. 4909 crores

New Delhi: In a bid to enhance its electronic connectivity and capability across 1.5 lakh Post Offices in India, Department of Posts is in the process of inducting new-age technology through an enterprise wide IT Project. In this series, it has also signed Business MOU with snapdeal.com & shopclues.com. 
 
India Post is celebrating National Postal Week from 9th to 15th October, 2014 and on the occasion of Business Development Day on 14th Oct 2014 it decided to join hands with Snapdeal.com & shopclues.com.

Department of Posts hiring insurance agents

Hyderabad, October 14:  The Department of Posts, AP Circle is hiring an unspecified numbers of direct agents to work for the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) through walk-in interviews.

The minimum educational qualifications should be a pass in 12th standard for those who are living in areas with a population of 5,000 or above 10th standard for those living in any other places. Interested candidates might attend the walk-in-interview on October 31 at the officer of the senior superintendent of posts, Secunderabad Division, Hyderabad at 10 am with relevant proof of date of birth and educational qualifications. Short-listed candidates would be given provisional licence number besides necessary training to get through the licentiate examination conducted by Insurance Institute of India to get permanent licence.

The PLI agents would get 0.25 per cent commission on the sum and two per cent on renewal premium collected by them on cash policies procured by them. For RPLI agents, it would be 10 per cent on premium collected for the first 12 months after acceptance and 2.5 per cent on renewal premium, according to a release.

India Post to play an important role in online shopping now

Keeping in view the enormous growth of the e-commerce sector in the country in recent years, India Post has recently joined hands with the e-retail  giants Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon. India Postal Department will soon be delivering products of these online companies in every corner of the nation in the near future.

The prospects of collaboration were discussed in a press conference held on Saturday on the occasion of 'mail diwas' during 'National Postal Week'. The machine installed on latest 'Automated Mail Processor Center' was also displayed.

Shri John Samuel, Member of the Postal Service Board informed that the Indian Post will soon convert 1.55 lakh post offices of the country to the high-tec 'Parcel hubs' and  an investment of Rs 4.90 crore  is being pitched for this plan.

“India Post will play a major role in e-commerce industry and would be using latest machines. It would be transforming according to the needs of the world,” he further added.

Chief Post Master General Shri Vashumitra stressed that automated mail processing centre built at IGI airport, is important for the modernisation of India Post. He also shared that letter sorting machine, mixed mail sorter machines installed in the centre work quickly. The letters and parcels are sorted out as per the different states and different areas (as per Pincodes).

33,000 letters per hour can be sorted by this machine. He urged the customers as well to write the addresses and pincodes on the letters and parcels correctly, avoid using coloured envelopes, so that there may be no problems in sorting of the letters and parcels.
