Administering of Pledge "Swachh Shapath" on 2nd October, 2014 as a part of "Swachh Bharat Mission"

As communicated vide Secretary (Postal Services Board) D.O. No.87-04/2014-Coordn/O&M dated 29th September, 2014 all the Officers and Staff will come to office by 9.30 AM on 2nd October, 2014 and take pledge at 9.45 AM. The employees are also to voluntarily carry out cleanliness of their office premises from inside and outside.  

No Holiday on October 2 for Central Government Employees This Time

Cabinet Secretary Ajith Seth has asked the Central Government employees to come to office on October 2, which happens to be the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and a national holiday, and tidy up the office premises. A circular to this effect will be sent to all the Central Government offices soon.

 

As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean India) mission, all Central Government employees have been asked to report on duty on October 2, and take a pledge of cleanliness. The circular has already been sent to the secretaries of various departments.

 

Cabinet Secretary Ajith Seth explained, “During his Independence Day speech on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission. He is all set to begin the campaign on October 2.

 

As part of the campaign, all Central Government employees are to attend the office on October 2 to take the pledge of cleanliness. Prior to the campaign, all concerned Central Government officials have been intimated to clean up the office premises.

 

Seth has said that all the Central Government departments will have to participate without fail in the ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission.

Government asks ministries, officials to take cleanliness pledge on October 2-Gandhi Jayanti

The Narendra Modi government has asked all ministries to go on an "intensive cleanliness campaign" from September 25 to October 2 in the week to Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, culminating in a Swachta Shapath or cleanliness pledge to be taken by bureaucrats in Delhi on Gandhi Jayanthi. 

Cabinet secretary Ajit Seth asked secretaries to take the cleanliness drive in government offices and public buildings "to the next level so that there is visible and felt impact," in a September 20 note that ET has seen. 

The cleanliness pledge is to be taken by all government officials on October 2, with senior staff personally seeing to it that the week-long drive is pursued vigorously in their departments. Seth asked ministries for a comprehensive action plan to be sent to him by September 22 "so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be briefed". 

Modi has already said that he will be picking up the broom on October 2 to clean a public place. 

"The PM has given a call for Swach Bharat as a mass movement to realise Mahatma Gandhi's dream of cleanliness. Each ministry should participate in this national endeavour and undertake cleanliness and awareness campaign in a befitting manner," Seth said. 

"For a campaign of this nature to be successful, there is a need to create massive public awareness and to ensure participation and action for cleaning homes, government offices, schools, hospitals, work places, streets, roads and markets, railway station and bus terminals, statues, monuments, rivers, lakes, ponds and other public places," he said in the note.

Top priority for digital connectivity of all post offices, says MoC

New Delhi, July 21:  Proper digital connectivity of all post offices in the country is top priority for the Government, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the Lok Sabha here on Monday.

Replying to questions related to his Ministry, Prasad said the Prime Minister was personally monitoring a host of departments and postal services were one of them.

“The Prime Minister spent about one-and-a half–hours on the postal department and has given suggestions, which will be considered,” he said, in reply to a query by Biju Janata Dal’s Tathagata Satapathy on the status of the banking licence applied for by the postal department. Prasad said there was need for reforms in postal reforms as also upgradation of Grameen Dak Ghar Services, catering to the rural population.

 

Mobile networks :

Prasad said the Government’s priority was also to improve BSNL services. Responding to a question raised by Congress MP Ashok Chavan on poor mobile network in Naxal-affected regions in Maharashtra, Prasad said mobile networks, under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) scheme in such areas are likely to be set up in 15 months.

A proposal to install mobile towers at 1,836 locations in nine States affected by Left Wing Extremism with funding support from USOF has already been approved, he added.

The Minister said Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) had installed mobile towers at 363 locations for which financial support to meet operational expenses would be provided through USOF.
